violin photo

Here is a shot of a violin I took with my RB67 & 127mm C lens. The film is Fuji Superia 100. Having done most of my photography in D!@#*&%$, have not yet got the hang of recording my shooting data.

5 strings??? Perhaps this is much more of a "fiddle" than it is a violin. The f holes are interesting also...much more tapered and with sharper ends than the Stradivarius model that so many instruments are built on.

Tell us more about the instrument. It's a bit unusual.

Jovo, as far as I know, "fiddle" is a style of playing and not the instrument per se. I am dying to hear what this is. Five strings. Hmmm.

The only difference between a violin and a fiddle is how you choose to play it...
This is a 5 string violin that is used mostly by Jazz, Progressive, Blues, Celtic, Bluegrass, most any genre' other than classical.
The original pattern is the del Gesu "Cannone". It has been modified slightly to change the internal air volume.
5 string violins are growing in popularity with violin and viola players.

What is the tuning of the strings?

I have a relatively small viola, so while playing I often think that an additional e string would really sound and work nice.

I would guess the lowest string is a "c" to complete the violin/viola blend.

By "fiddle" I meant that mods would be more likely to facilitate its' intended use rather than the more traditional configuration.

Of course it's a C. I'm thinking backwards. Probably because I'm both a guitarist and a mandolin player.

With a low G string on a normal instrument, C is the obvious choice.

Anyway, it's a lovely shot of a beautiful instrument. I would have liked to have seen a little bit more distinction between the tailpiece and the shadow in the bottom left but that's just me being picky.
