Does anyone know of anybody here in Canada that does repairs and servicing of vintage cameras. I have a number of medium to high end folders and rangefinders that need various repairs and servicing. Its getting a little expensive sending them to the States and now that the Loonie has crashed in value against the Greenback, it has spurred me to look for someone here.

If this is in the wrong category, the moderators can move it to the right one.

Thanks,

Doug

I wish I knew of one as well. There are a are a few that do Rollei repair, but no Contax RF or Folder repair that I know of. I sent my Super Ikonta to Mark Hansen, my Olympus to John Hermanson, and Contax RTS 3 to Tocad-ll in the States. I have tried to have some things repaired here, and for me it didn't go that well. I had to finally send my vintage Contax RF and very old Rollei to specialists in the US. They both came back great.

Try Kindermann in Markham ON. I know he does Rollei and Leica and handles many repairs for the GTA photo shops. He at one time told me to bring in my Vito B and Zeiss Ikonta folder that each need shutter cla. I've not used him yet but, a local shop who gave me his name uses them and told me they've not had a return for rework they could remember of.

are highly recommended. Though I've not yet had them repair equipment, I have spoken with them and like them.

Precision Camera in Winnipeg does quality work but is very selective on work they will do and tend to focus on the digital (I tried to get them to CLA my Yashica-Mat 124G and they refused but they fixed a local Nikon F5 recently). I think they choose jobs based on available parts. I prefer Chengs in Saskatoon (which is nowhere near you I realize) as he does quality work for reasonable prices; he is the one I got to do the CLA I needed. My mom used to send her Mamiya to him in the 80's; talking with him, he really does prefer the analogue cameras to the digital. No website but he is easy to find with a Google search.

David Yau might be able to help:

Horst Wenzel on West 38th Avenue in Vancouver.

He used to own Vancam and is now semi-retired.

He can be found in the phone "book".

Thank you all for your suggestions.I'l get started on them next week.

Another vote for Camtech in Hamilton. Good work and good prices (a rare combination.)

I've had the following work done by them:

Rollei 2.8F Planar - CLA with shutter timing
YashicaMat LM - CLA with shutter timing
Pentax MZ-S - troubleshoot and repair faulty shutter speed dial

Each job only took about a week. Great guys at the store too, a pleasure to deal with.
