I can get lost in the photographs and visit all the layers as if we're studying the layers of relationship.

I always found Mann's work amazing.

The first time I leafed through Immediate Family I didn't much care for it. But something drew me back each time I visited the bookstore. Amazingly, the book remained unbought for months while I returned almost weekly and sought it out repeatedly.

I know own three copies (for fear of it going out of print), and it is easily one of my favorite books. The pictures are so tantalizing, beguiling, and profound, that I feel like I know Sally's kids personally.
