A nicely done short intro to lighting. The focus is on cinematic lighting, but the principles apply across the board.

Thanks for posting.
It is an excellent tutorial and covers, as you said, the basic principles of lighting.
I like the referral to Rembrandt lighting. If you can study the old masters, you will learn a lot about light and colour/shade.
When I studied photography (long time ago) my lecturer liked to remind us that the name photography came from the Greek, meaning writing with light.
Hence another name for director of photography is lighting cameraman.
