I've been using ektagraphic projectors for years. They are great in my opinion, but very heavy and bulky and it is a production to set it up. I have to lug out the giant abs case it comes in, find a place to put it etc. Does anyone have any recommendations for a small (and I'm going to assume stack loader type) projector that can stay permanently on a bookshelf? I shoot a lot of slides and family slides, and since my kids are still young enough to not realize this isn't normal, we look at them often and it is a joy.

The only tray projectors being shallow that come to my mind are old ones from Braun (the Braun firm with the electronic valve in its name, not with the achromat).

(the front one being very shallow)

Other than that are the slide-stage types. Here the choice is larger.

the classic one

Thanks for the reply. I guess I'm searching for a unicorn. Perhaps a minolta mini https://www.photo.net/discuss/threads/meet-the-minolta-mini.455918/ will scratch the itch.

No, not a unicorn at all. As I said, at the slide-stage type there is quite a choice. And I got small ones as the Minolta one above. But of course the smaller the size the lesser the features (lamp power, cooling, erection, condenser, lens).

A stack projector would be bigger again.

And concerning the bookshelf, it seems to me the width would be the major dimension that counts.

Add a stack loader to your Ektagraphic. You don't even have to leave it attached. The Ektagraphic will happily accept a cloth dust cover - can you sew?
The Rollei projectors are a slight bit narrower, but you will have to switch to compatible trays.

Which way is that 11x14 oriented? How does that compare to the size of your Ektagraphic?

Leica P150 may be worth a look.

Thanks for all the replies, I think I may be able to make the ektagraph work. if I put it on top of a smaller bookshelf. I still need to find a dust cover.

I have a mid 70’s bell&howell. I don’t know the model off hand but I do know where it is. It’s about A 10 inch cube and uses boxes to hold the slides, maybe 40 or 50 each. PM me if interested and I’ll dig it out and send pictures. Or maybe there are pictures online. It may be called a slide cube.

Amongst the smallest I got is one of japanese origin, branded Walz and thus to be available on your side of the pond. It comes in a soft case that is of a size a girl would use when going out at night.

I have a small Leitz projector on my bookshelf. Totally manual. But condenser and lens give stunning results. Intended for salesmen to carry in briefcase. Around 1960-61 I had the tiny Minolta, also no slouch and maybe even smaller than Leitz. Of course, the more features the bigger the projector. Also more to break down.
