what is the slit in the barrel of verito soft focus lens used for? can't see the need for stops as those are built in and adjustable...filters?

thanks
dave

I forget precisely what it was for, possibly different shaped apertures, but I think it says in the Wollensak catalogue, which you can find at cameraeccentric.com. My Veritos don't have the slit, but as I recall it was a factory option.

MY 14 1/2 inch does not have the slit, but it has a studio shutter....bulb only....the 9 inch has the slit and no shutter

not a bad idea Dave, different aperature shapes, I just made a little card shutter that can slip into it....am going to get it on a board and do some experimenting....

that is exactly what it is for, different aperature shapes. Years ago it was common for graphics art cameramen to modifiy the aperature shape to work better with the old time screens used then in halftone work. I suspect it was used to make the resulting halftone image sharper but that is guess work.

Dave you are correct....it is on page 21 of the Verito catalog...shows 3 difusion stops, instructions to focus at f 32 and then shoot wide open with the stops...info on the camera eccentric site....
