Correct, Verichrome wasn't a Kodak product at all, it was originally made by Wratten & Wainright, of Croydon, England, who were later bought by Kodak, for 2 reasons, firstly to acquire their knowledge of Panchromatic emulsions, and also to get their hands on Mees to head up a new Research facility in Rochester.

If I remember correctly, Eastman's acqusition of W&W was one of Mees's demands. I think Mees had a part ownership in W&W or, at least had the concerns of the other employees in mind when he negotiated that with Eastman.

Probably, and then remember the W&W research team almost certainly became the core of Harrow Research facility, and that Wratten continued tarding.

Kodak had by then tried unsuccessfully twice to buy or amalgamate with Ilford.

If memory serves, I developed a roll of Verichrome that was found in an old folder here not too many months ago. It was similar to developing (you'll have to imagine) a "long thin sheet of jello". Strange stuff.
