I did a search and the last update I could find on Velvia sheet film here at APUG was back in Sept. Although there was information posted and discussions I did not see this link or others to verify "reality" as it were. What is interesting in this article is V-50 is not mentioned. Although I'm well aware of it not being sold directly other then in Japan for quite a long time now. My last order months back came from Japan.
So, as in the past there is not much one can do but see how things go. I've been following the losses of Fuji products since the start, but had not seen this article until it was passed on to me until today. As I did not use much 100 or 100f I was more interested in the 50 status going into 2017.

Velvia 50 in 5x4 format was discontinued as per Fujifilm's Dealer Bulletin issued last year (July IIRC). This was one of the major reasons I did not migrate to large format, as Velvia 50 is a prominent staple in my work. The representative here in Australia said that demand for Velvia 50 in sheet format "has evaporated". It's even more challenging to find a dealer offering E6 for that size (just one I can see). Only legacy stocks of RVP50 available now, and often plentiful on eBay or private online sellers. I am maintaining my undeniably gloomy view that E6 will end in the next few years, thus film is not my only medium for photography. The market that E6 film once thrived in has long since gone. I expect Fujifilm will make further announcements in Q2 of 2017.

This that was linked from that blog says the same as all the rest.
RVP50 is NOT discontinued from the factory. It IS still being made in 135, 120, 4x5 (220 and 8x10 are gone I think). And it IS getting more expensive.

USA, Australia, and I think UK and EU reps have all confirmed that it is discontinued for SALE there, but it IS still being MADE in the factory and IS still available in Japan.
So all you can do is buy from fleabay or a Japanese distributor. The more you buy the more they might be inclined to continue making it.

Fujifilm have NOT announced any discontinuation as far ahead as 2017 or 2018 (if anyone says otherwise, please send me a link, preferably to a fujifilm site or press-release).
Anything saying so are just unfortunate rumours.

(and yes, Go Ferrania! They'll be all that's left in E6 if/when Fujifilm pulls the plug completely).

My understanding too. As I stated, I was well aware of the demise of V-50 not being sold directly outside of Japan for quite sometime now. However, I bought 5 boxes of V-50 directly from Japan in January 2015 and the film was all dated 2016.

I cannot find any reference of Velvia 50 being discontinued in any size except 220 rollfilm

The official and original Fujifilm Japan press release dated July 10, 2015 mentions the following films as being about to be discontinued:

  • all reversal film (including Velvia 50) in 220 rollfilm size
  • Velvia 100F sheet film in 4x5 and 8x10 size
  • Provia 400X in 135 and 120 rollfilm size

note regarding Velvia 100F sheet film: While these are discontinued, Fujifilm expects supplies for this film to last until March 2017
