I dropped off my big bag of C41 holiday rollfilm yesterday for processing, and Lachie informed me that they're moving later this year to somewhere in Fitzroy - pros: the new premises will be bigger and better, cons: they will no longer be within walking distance of my work... The other details I have temporarily forgotten, after being distracted by attractive lightweight Gitzo tripods...

Marc!

The other advantage of Carlton is that it's a very short tram ride from the CBD. It's already two tram rides for me, so if they are any further away it looks like I'll be restricted to Saturdays only :-(

But it's encouraging that they are moving to larger premises.

Well it's not quite so close to ME, but I'd miss sloping down that sleazy little ally where the last hold outs of film and chemistry conceal their nefarious trade.

Confession: I bought a Fuji X100 (shock horror) digital camera from them a few weeks ago.

Ross, nice description. The one and only time I've ever been in there I was gobsmacked with amount of film-related stuff they had. I couldn't stay long, sadly.

Moving in about a month, they told me. Too bad, the current shop is in walking distance from my office.

This coming from a resident of the state that brought us Fosters Lager...hmmm

Yes, I am ashamed to admit that Fosters did originate here, and VB. But I must say that I haven't had a VB for at least a year, and I just don't remember the last time I had a Fosters.....many many years. Fosters is one of those many myths that foreigners have about Australia, like kangaroos in Collins St.

These days, if I'm drinking something made from malt and hops it's mostly from that little offshore island to the south (that will get someone going).

You mean that you have (voluntarily) tasted Coopers more than once?

Yes, and proudly so, even though I am a Victorian. And yes, I too am quite partial to the Tasmanian beers myself.

Maybe our next Melbourne gathering needs to be a beer tasting?

This coming from a resident of the state that brought us Southwark and West End… Double hmmm!!

I suggest that we get rid of Southwark, West End, VB and Fosters. Stick with Coopers, Fat Yak, Mountain Goat and Kosi.

Ahhhh, memories. Family parties where the Southwark Bitter was served with Green Lables in Long necks!

But, yes you are right. West End is the devils work itself.
