I just got a brand new laptop, a dell Inspiron 7000 series. Installed the latest and greatest drivers for my Epson v600 scanner (which works fine with my older laptop) but as soon as I plug it in and hit Preview it starts to whirl like it's going to scan then an error pops up saying something like it can't communicate with the scanner. Sometimes if I'm fast enough I can kill the popup and it will complete the preview but when I go to do a real scan the same thing will happen and it will die in the middle of the scan. I tried Vuescan and it doesn't show any errors but never does anything when I hit preview.

Any ideas?

Update everything that can be updated. Perhaps try a different usb cable.

Go to the device manager and remove the device, then rescan (devices) to re-detect it.

Does it scan with Epson's V600 scan software?

No it won't complete with the Epson Scan or Vuescan. It's almost like my laptop is too fast for the scanner. The computer is impatient for the scanner to finish what it's doing. This is a brand new laptop.

What did Epson support say when you contacted them? If you are running Windows 10, you need the most recent version of Epson files that some people report they had to get from Epson.

I haven't had time to sit down and file a formal support ticket on it yet. If I can't figure it out soon, I will do that. I can still use an ancient computer I have to do scan but trying to move everything to my new laptop. I'll keep you guys in the loop when I figure it out...

It may be something more fundamental than requiring the most recent Epson files. I have a V500 (which is older than the V600) which I bought when I was using Widows XP. It worked with Windows 7 when I changed computers and with Windows 10. ( the free upgrade) It has never stopped working.

I did have a problem some time ago which meant it wouldn't scan at all, but it turned out to be that the USB cable had a fault. Try swapping known good ones and see how you get on.
