Lets try another approach.

Revolutionary war. Brits 0 US 1
War of 1812. Brits 0 US 2
Hitler and Neville Chamberlain. Brits 0 US 3
WWII. The Brits finally got that one right by probability's weak law of large numbers and the influence of Winnie, who by the way is half American. So the score is Brits 0.5 to US 4.0 :whistling:

Ok, now that we have established the the Brits are rarely right, it is not a large leap of faith to recognize that 4"x5" is right and that 5"x4" is wrong.

Next question?

Oops! Correction! The Brits backed the Confederacy!

It would be difficult to find an unpaved road in the UK, at least at the old class C level. I remember one about a mile from where I used to live in Reading. Now, I can find a couple of unincorporated streets that are almost four wheel drive only not far from me, but that is the exception. The difference in infrastructure between California and NW Europe is about on a par with the difference in scale between NW Europe and the Pacific coast States.

No. The weather variation in the western US alone makes the Pacific Coast States much more challenging than NW Europe.

Smaller space, larger population, longer established = more paving.

Paved roads are a waste of tax payers' money!

I was quite enjoying the good natured banter in this thread until reading the last few posts. WTF?
