As some of you may have read, I ordered a 220 back from B&H, to possibly use with 120 film. (there was a url link here which no longer exists)

Update: The back arrived, looking pretty good. It has a sparkly sticker on the back, and 220 film loaded inside. This is of course complete with a tab in the memo holder, indicating 160vc. I opened it unknowingly, and may have exposed the film quite a bit, low lit room, but it looked like it had just been loaded, as the counter was displaying 1.

My question is, how could B&H overlook this? It leads me to believe that no internal inspections were performed upon pricing this unit for resale. In my field, the refurbishment process for Macs would have uncovered such a detail, lets say it was a disc in the optical drive.

In addition, I am probably going to shoot this roll for testing/experimental sake, obviously!

As always, love the input!

How was it graded? My impression is that it is sometimes more cost effective for them to grade an item BGN rather than test it. Some BGN items turn out to be perfectly good, in spite of the grade.

This was from B&H, so the grading system is 1-10 and this was rated at 8+ or 9 - I can't recall but one of those two for sure.

Pop it on, wind it and shoot the rest. Hope there are no murder scenes from the killer on the film and process it. I love "Found Film".

I am excited to shoot it, to be honest, but I am concerned there may be pictures on there I am ruining, or even worse, I exposed when I opened the back. It looked like it had just been loaded and the counter read 1, then read S after I closed it back up, which was strange. IT makes for a great test roll. Any idea if other exposures are possible, given that position?

There's no way the back could have been graded with a roll of film in it-unless they put a roll in all backs to test them.It might be easier for them to sell in bulk, take a chance and accept any returns-I find KEH to be the most reliable.

Anyway-the first few frames will show light damage progressing to the edges as you go into the roll-fire off about 4 shots and then shoot the rest.

Yeah, exactly what I am thinking. I emailed them today to see if they have anything to say about it. I like how fast B&H ships out but honestly this puts me off. There is no way this item was inspected, it has two stickers on it, and the memo clip has the film tab in it, so even if they were using a test roll, why the memo? I can't believe something would get an 8+ based on an external glance, that is insane.

And yes, good thinking. I'll fire off those first four, then have fun with the rest. it'll be a rough test to say the least, but who knows! The film is obviously expired, could be cool.

you will need to wind to one again and stop shooting at 21 or so.

Wow, good to know in the future. You may mean stop shooting at like 17? The RZ with 220 gets 20 shots.

Embarrassed smiley : yes you may lose more frames cause 220 has no backing safer with 120.
