We often use color film and paper without spending much thought on how miraculous it is that they are capable of producing fairly clean and realistic colors in the first place.

This blog explores how the different layers in color film and paper emulsions are made to respond specifically to their 'own' colors and how massive crosstalk between the color channels is prevented. In particular, the fundamental difference between how color film and color paper achieve this is highlighted.
