Sounds to me like they just did a good job at selling you film.

Did they offer you candy too?

Amusing comment, to anyone who frequents B&H. The place has multiple candy dishes on every counter. This is someone else's photo, but here's what they look like: B&H candy dish.

As a New Yorker, I find being called 'rude' or 'discourteous' to be rude and discourteous. I much prefer to be called 'abupt' or 'gruff'.

Funny... I was just in New York last December (for the first time). I had countless experiences of friendliness. Once, coming out of a subway, we were obviously confused about which direction was north and a woman stopped and helped us (we didn't even ask). I stopped at both Adorama and B&H and got very friendly service (I spotted some empty boxes at Adorama; I needed to ship some stuff home so I asked if I could have them, and they gave them to me with pleasure). New Yorkers are often in a hurry (that's a big city thing; I notice it in Toronto too) but I wouldn't call them unfriendly, at least not in my one-week experience.

I agree. I lived in NY for about 60 years, and rarely had any problem with rude individuals. Same with the Parisians when I visited there. People are, indeed, people and a smile usually evokes a return smile.

I always had very friendly and extremely helpful employees, who almost always go out of their way to help me get what I am asking for and not because I am a woman, most of them are religious anyway.

In general I've found the people at B&H and Adorama both to be quite friendly. When I was new to New York I found the conveyor system at B&H to be fascinating but now I hate it because I've been buying bulkier things since I started printing b/w and developing C41, which means huge amount of plastic bags at the pickup area because I can't advise them in advance that I have my own bag. At Adorama, it's like any other store...I walk in with a backpack and fill it instead of taking their bags.

Oh, and the last time I was there (a couple weeks ago), they were completely stocked on Rodinal & Selectol-Soft. Unfortunately the salesperson I was dealing with hadn't heard about Selectol-Soft being discontinued which makes him or B&H in general seem slightly less knowledgeable. (It's cheaper at Adorama anyway).

it seems interesting (at least to me) that more people(average consumers) buy film around the holidays, because THEY know that the film images will last longer.

digital files= POOF, "where'd all the pictures go" (day after christmas, Dad learning what the buttons and 'format card' actually means"

film: snap(x24,36) = $5-$10 at Costco, (everyone nicely exposed, happy, shiny faces, and wonderful memories on QUALITY materials for years of enjoyment!

at least from my observances over the last 2-3 years....

I only purchased film in person at B&H one time. A box of Ilford FP4 in 4x5 and some Veliva 100 in a similar size. I actually found the sales associate to be a pretty friendly guy.

Really glad to hear that film is making a resurgence.

I didn't even have to go to NYC or B&H.

Perhaps Mr. WolfTales is in training for a job at B&H? :D
