I'm going thru a test I did in 2022 of vintage lenses, and my file says Canon Serenar F1.8. However I can't find the lens! My documentation isn't the best to say the least. Anyway I do see a canon 50mm F1.8 is it possible some of them don't say Serenar on the lens? Here is a photo.

Yep, I had a chrome Canon 50/1.8 dated to about 1954 that was just labeled "Canon Lens", no Serenar. S/n was #108958, so slightly earlier than yours.

Thanks Jim, I guess I'm not losing it completely.

Buy Peter Kitchingman's Canon rangefinder lens book. There are several variations of the 50/1.8. which Peter discusses in great detail.

I don’t need a book but thanks for the info.

Canon used the Serenar name for their L39 rangefinder lenses, but they stopped using it at some point. "Serenar" was just a trade name - it was used on lenses of several different focal lengths and designs. It's not missing on this lens. It was never there.

Thank you for the additional info. I appreciate it.
