Unknown film notch code - HELP?!?!

I have some film that I am unable to find the notch code for. It is a small semi-circle, smaller than the standard Fuji or Ilford large semi-circle.

The film base is grey, the backing is purplish.

It is in 8x10.

I exposed some at ISO 200 last weekend and developed normally. They looked a little thick.

Ideas?

I've seen some film where the notching hardly appears at all, as though the film slipped away from the cutter. It is possible the semi circle is smaller than normal because of this effect?

Forte and Adox films use a small semi-circular notch code chances are it's one of these, most likely Forte by the sound of it. J&C were selling Forte films in the US through their association with Fotoimpex in Berlin.

Micheal, you must know what film you have in the house and their notching !
I use 3 diferent colored round stickers on my holders:
Black > B&W film
Orange > color neg
Green > slide film
And an extra sticker if I use more than one film type. In that case I mark the box with the same sticker combination aswell.

I never lost track of things.....

The only thing you can say for certain about notch codes is that they tell you which side of the film the emulsion is on.

Kodak used to have a dependable coding scheme. I've used some T-Max recently that seems to have a complex series shapes, so I assume that they still try to identify emulsions with the code.

But if you are dealing with independent film cutters, the code doesn't tell you what the emulsion is.

I am currently using factory-packaged Efke 100 that has a fairly broad semi-circular notch that appears to have a 3/8" diameter. I used quite a bit of Freestyle's Arista (back when it was Ilford) and it had a very similar notch. But I have used the same emulsion packaged by the former J&C that had a half-circle notch about 1/8" in diameter.

Yet another thing to watch out for when using second tier manufacturer's products.

The Maco 820c IR and IR Aura films also had this same semi-circular notch on them. It seemed that the non-Aura notch was somewhat larger, but I still make sure to write what film is loaded in which holders in my notebook - at the time of loading.

Just so everyone doesn't think I'm an idiot, this film was given to me by a friend. He thought it was one film, I checked the notch and didn't recognize it...hence the confusion.
