Hello,
I was putting away some darkroom tools when I found this and I can't for the life of me remember what it is used for? Perhaps to tweak focus?

Welcome to APUG.

You use that tool to remove the retainer rings used to hold lenses (and other things) in place.

It can be used with enlarging lenses, and camera lenses.

It only works with retainer rings that have the slots.

Those are used for removing the retaining rings that hold the lens to the lens board. Whoops too late

That tool is used to rem.... Wuh... Oh too late too

Welcome to APUG Robert...
Lens spanners normally come with sets of end pieces so you need to look for the bag of bits.

It's a spanner wrench to assemble or disassemble large-format and other lenses. It's also used to fasten lenses to lens boards.it's value is onlyaround $15-$20 but keep it if it moves along the threads smoothly.. You'll never know:smile:

Thanks so much for all your help, I can finally rest regarding this instrument. Sadly, we've ended our traditional setup, moved most of into storage, including a Colex processor. I still freelance print independently once in a while, thank goodness for photogs like Bruce Weber!

As posted earlier it is a spanner wrench for tightening and loosening lens retaining rings.

Has anyone mentioned that this is a spanner wrench for tightening and loosening lens retaining rings?

I mean, has anyone mentioned that today? Let's keep this thread going...

Or leave it lying around the house and when friends ask, nonchalantly say "Oh, I'm also an amateur gynecologist..."

It seems like it could be used to test whether an electrical outlet is energized or not.

:whistling:

No no no no no no no NO-O-O-O!!!

THAT... is a chicken tooth extractor.

I happen to have the same spanner, and now that we might possibly have an approximate idea of what it could be for (no guarantees), here's what it should look like with both rods in place:

Yes, and if you got it too close to the Sun so that it would melt and deform, then is would be the first time in history that a star mangled spanner had been found.
