Universal grips/flash brackets

I've been looking at auction listings for some type of grip to add to my "HolgaCongo." (Holgapan120 with a Congo 90mm f6.8) I see one branded as UPI that has a wide camera plate which would off more real estate for potential modifications. The problem is that all are missing the cable release.

My question is;

Do the universal grips that incorporate a manual cable release (non-electronic, non body specific) require a specific release with threads on the plunger end? Or rather, what keeps the release nested into the grip handle? I'm sure I could use an adhesive of some type but I'm still curious how they were made solid from the factory.

On my "HolgaCongo," it's not ideal to actuate the shutter release with my pinky while holding the camera.

I like the metal folding ones with a hole for a cable release for simplicity
But I've always want to marry a linhof grip to some kind of custom bracket, but I'm lazy(if I only had a drill press...)

The screw type bracket is made with a threaded screw, that does not bottom out but rather, slips on an unthreaded section at the base of the screw.

It'll be tight enough to hold your camera secure, but, in most cases, you'll not be able to unscrew it from the adjustable rail, in which it rides, a positive which also means you will not find it's gone walkabout.

@Chuck1 Do you know if the vintage LPL folding bracket has a cable release hole? There seem to be quite a few floating around. Also, a couple pieces of scrap lumber, a clamp or 2, a drill and cobalt bits are all you need.

Eli, I think we missed each other. I know how the brackets are held to the camera, it's what retains the cable release that's in question. I can't be positive about this without having my hands on them, but it looks like in the case of Linhof, there's a specific cable release for use with the anatomical grip that has threads on the plunger end, so it screws into the grip.

I'll likely buy a couple of really cheap( $10 or less) options and see what I can come up with so that if things go south, I'm not out very much money. In the $30-50 range there are a ton of options, but ruining one is a bit more painful at that point.

The super-diy option involves a metal "L" shelf bracket, some hardware and some wood scraps.

Not sure about the branding of the folding brackets, some have a metal tab with a hole, some have a hole in the plastic, as to the perfect cable release,no idea hopefully it's slightly smaller and can be shimmed.
Linhof releases don't have threads on the plunger end.
Stroboframe with the wood handle look pretty comfortable too

I found a decent picture of the Linhof release that accompanies the anatomical grip. You are right, no threads. It is a slightly different animal from "normal" cable releases though.

The Nikon Pistol grip had/has a threaded cable release. but the camera end had the old
Nikon/Yashica female fitting. Not to worry though, Nikon made an adapter from that to a
standard release*.

*not to say it's hard to find but I've seen one in over forty years
