Unittic hotshoe mounted light meter

Have one of these I got with a job lot of stuff but can't for the life of me figure out how to use it ?

Looks like the one in link below but mine goes up to 1000 ASA, maybe a later model.

There is probably a mark on the big wheel that you line up with the needle. But some of these old meters no longer repond to light and therefore no longer work. A while ago I picked a Gossen Pilot meter which is similar. The needle moved when put in sunlight but turned out not to be accurate at all.
Nothing lives forever.

The needle on this moves smoothly when responding to different light levels so think it is working fine. Just can't work it out

Looking at the photo, you can set the ASA and the needle shows the f/stop. I would have to be holding it to see where you line up the shutter speed.

Assuming it is cloudy out (since it is winter) see if you can get set a combination of ASA 100, 1/100, f/5.6 or thereabouts and see what coincides with what.

It looks like you set the ASA against the shutter speed and then the needle points to the f-stop. Not the most convenient method.

Yes, that's how I interpreted it. At f16 (opposite the needle), you get 1/2sec shutter speed at 80 ASA for example.
