Unidentified lens

I would like to use this Exakta VX500, there is no lens information except for serial number? Is the ring with identifying info missing from front? Appears to be a 50mm2:8? Any help would be appreciated, thanks.

Looks like a Meyer Domiplan 50/2.8 with missing name ring.

Thank you, is that a Zeiss type lens and the missing ring should not affect quality?

Meyer and Zeiss were two different companies. It might be a copy of a Zeiss design -- I don't know.

The missing ring should have no effect per se but it might indicate that the lens has been worked on.

Have you confirmed in the viewfinder that it focuses?

It looks like the right-hand example on this page:
