If I underfix my negs, but fix long enough to clear the base, will the film turn a strange color in a few days?

I doubt it, but there may be some unstable silver thiosulphate complexes left in the film that could break down over time and degrade the negatives.

If it's 35mm just thread into a spiral & re-fix & wash, you can use paper clips to hang strips to dry :D

My understanding was always to fix for twice the clearing time.

Any change in colour is more likely to be due to poor washing rather than underfixing.

As Ian mentioned, underfixing would lead to fading.

hmmm, okay, I was just trying to figure out why my roll of Delta 3200 turned greenish everywhere except the rebate, and underfixing was my first concern since underfixed paper turns strange colors shortly after washing...
