Love this site since finding it and would really like to subscribe but can't because I haven't a clue what my Paypal password is (only set up a Paypal account so I could join another site, and that was about 3 years ago). Clicked on the 'Having trouble logging in?' link, only to be told I'm using an old browser, then being given 4 different browser options to click on.
Being VERY basic internet literate I don't want to click on any of them in case I f*** up with whatever my current browser (haven't a clue what that is either) is and lock myself out of being able to use the internet at all.
Any easy (and I mean VERY easy) suggestions on where I go from here to enable me to subscribe?

Ok, have just seen the link giving alternative methods of payment. However, none of the links therein are clickable (I wanted to go the pay by Visa card route), so am stumped once again. If someone pops round to my home I'll give them the damn subscription money!

Hi Paul, we have some additional options here (credit card): (there was a url link here which no longer exists)

Some also send cash wrapped in paper in an envelope, and I can supply an address if needed. Thanks!

Paul, Paypal can easily issue you with a new password which you can then change. Just follow the instructions on the site or if that doesn't work, phone them and they will fix it all up for you OL.

You will then be able to get on with the business the good people at Paypal want you to do - spending money.

Hi Paul,
It's only a little six month subscription gift, but this way, in years to come, you'll be able to say "I was part of the original APUG"

Also, you now have six months in which to remember your PayPal password, although, as ozmoose said, they'll happily accommodate a change of that for you.

Welcome to APUG :D

That's the alternative payment page I referred to, but like I said, clicking on the links within it (the choice in my case being the debit card option) doesn't work. Just to explain what I'm trying to do so there's no confusion - I'm trying to click on the line with the picture of 2 credit/debit cards next to it, but nothing happens. Have also tried clicking on the pictures themselves but with the same result.

Ok, have just gone to the log in page again to try as you suggest. There's no 'Contact us' link or phone number, only the 'Having trouble logging in' link which, as I've already mentioned, simply tells me my current browser is out of date and gives me 4 newer browser options which, as I've also said, I'm reluctant to click on cos I'm not very internet savvy so don't want to f*** something up and lose all internet.

The length of the subscription's irrelevant, it's the inability on my part to work out how to pay that's the problem.

If we really can pay in cash, then yes, please do give me an address. Please make sure you tell me the amount needed in pounds though.

Hi Paul,

My wording was confusing and it hasn't gone through yet, but I've gifted you a six month subscription so you've got plenty of time to sort out what's going wrong at your end. At some stage today/tonight, your status should change to 'subscriber', so you won't need to worry about any of this for a little while

For further down the track, as far as the "Payment Express" link which Sean posted, from what I can see, one merely fills in the details, then clicks "Next" in red at the bottom, taking you to another screen with further options. The images of the credit card types are, as you've noticed, "unclickable" and are merely there to show which type of cards are accepted. I hope I haven't added to the confusion!

A generous gesture, Molli. In return Paul can give you a 6 month free subscription to winning the ashes :D. Mind you, you can probably do that on your own :D

Thank you very much, that's a really kind gesture and much appreciated. Feel a bit dumb now though for thinking the credit card pictures were meant to be clickable, haha.
One more thing though; the currency converter shows in the order of changing whatever currency you select to New Zealand dollars, not the other way round. How can I work out how many pounds to put in the 'From' box so it matches the equivalent New Zealand dollar subscription rate (24 dollars from memory)? Surely if I put 24 in the 'From' box then pounds in the next box, that'll just give me how many dollars 24 pounds is equivalent to, when what I need to know is how many pounds is equivalent to 24 dollars.
Please bear with me on my dumbness, I feel there's light at the end of the tunnel with just a bit more help on this.

If it makes you feel any better, that just did my head in as well, since the Subscription page shows prices all in U.S. Dollars! Since I just use that page and get taken straight to my PayPal account, the conversion is taken care of and $50 US is about $66 Australian and.....well, I've no idea what Sean winds up with but I hope it's the right amount in New Zealandish Dollars and not Monopoly money!
So, using that page that has you convert pounds to NZ$ has me baffled, also, as to how Sean would wind up with $24 worth of U.S. currency at the end of the transaction. The only thing I can think to do is to sort of 'reverse engineer' it. See the screen grabs below:

1. Type in the U.S. amount of the subscription, for example, $24, and convert to pounds:

1.png

2. Type in the amount given in pounds and convert to NZD:

2.png

3. Move onto the next screen and type in the New Zealand amount:

The Reference* required is your user name here, in this case, the same as your name (I'm assuming).
Step 4....... wait until Sean has verified that I haven't messed this up completely!!!!!

By the way, clicking the unclickable is an easy thing to do.....wait until you've swiped a few screens in public that turn out NOT to be touch screens. At least you did it in the privacy of your own home!

...Update, I just took my theory a step further in practice and I think you can skip the pounds conversion part and just find out what the current U.S. to NZD is as the following screen automatically populates that field in New Zealand Dollars.

Sorry, it's late (well, stupid early) here and I'm probably making things so much more confusing than necessary. We should probably just wait for an adult to notice this thread and clean up the mess I just made! Sorry!

Yeah, that's all a bit confusing tbh. Ok, so the 24 dollar subscription rate - is that 24 US dollars or 24 NZ dollars? Once I know that, I think I'll be able to work it out by putting 24 in the amount box, the country whose dollars the 24 dollars is based on in the first box and the UK in the final box. That should finally give me the proper conversion in pounds and I can then pay the subscription.

$24 USD
If Sean used NZ dollars - almost everyone would be totally confused.

Thanks, Matt, I was about to write the same but then my head exploded and I thought I'd best step back from the keyboard!

Paul, I know it hasn't shown up yet, but you are already subscribed for the next six months. From personal experiences, signing up for another subscription before that one expires will have two subscriptions running concurrently. Wow, I really have contributed some mayhem this day, haven't I?!

Thank you, wish that was made clearer by the site. As it's based in NZ I was assuming it was NZ dollars. It's only my uncertainty that made me question it, and I'm glad I did.

Actually, for those who use Paypal, the APUG processor is clear. The credit card processor is the one that makes it a bit confusing.

Yes, you kindly gifted me a subscription earlier on. I was just thinking of doing it myself as well cos at least that way the site gets some funds.

I'm not sure if Sean keeps the page current, but when I was a subscriber I used this page (that I'm sure you've seen) as a basis to compensate for currency rates:
(there was a url link here which no longer exists)

I could swear it had a more thorough explanation of the exchange rate and net amount received, but I may have seen that elsewhere.

Ok @Paul Manuell & @Molli all is set. Molli, very generous of you! You went a bit over so I tacked on extra time to your new sub as well. Thanks guys!

Also, I am moving to a new CCard processor very soon. It will be able to accept USD and end all of the exchange rate confusion.

Thanks!
Sean

Paul, go to Firefox.com , download and install, work through the settings to adjust it to your taste. This is the only browser currently available that you can delete your browsing history any time you wish and/or on closing the browser. Other browsers based on Chrome are difficult to delete browsing history on as is Edge and they store your history on their cloud so they can sell advertising.

If I click on the "Click here for easy Paypal subscription" I get a pink You must be logged in to do that box even though I'm ALREADY logged in.
I'll reconsider when the new card thing is installed but I may just start charging for my technical repair expertise.
