I know there are UV/IR filters. Anyone got experience with it on films (color or B&W)? Google just broth me to see Leica forums talking about how it worked well on M8. Very little about how it perform on films .

I wish to try this , but not sure whether worth to try because they are not cheap. All I am sure is this filter cut both UV and IR. And if my understanding is right, it should be helping in color photography, but for B&W ... maybe only little work on panchromatic B&W film ? 🤨

Hope to hear your words.

If you don’t have them already or have an digital M, you would probably be wasting money to get IR cut filters just for film. It is largely a sensor problem. Standard film is usually not particularly sensitive to IR and, in any case, color shifting would likely biggest concern, IMO (like magenta instead of black on the old M8)

If you want use a filter for lens protection, you can get high quality UV filters that are less expensive than IR cut filters.

UV filters: Skylight 1A or 1B, Haze or UV
IR filters: Red 25, Red 29, 72 or 720

The Red 25, Red 29, Red 72 filter out Visible light.

The IR (cut) filter used on digital cameras is also known as a "Hot Mirror" filter, reflects IR light.

Film is not sensitive to Infrared light, except special film made for IR photography. It is very sensitive to UV light. A UV filter will cut it. If using a Leica M9 or M Monochrom: the sensor is very sensitive to UV and a filter will cut much of the purple fringing often recorded.
