Ultrafine will be restocking their Xtreme 100 & 400 films in 35mm (24exp rolls) and 120 format next year in January, prices for both will be $7.49. Not sure if they're going to have their usual 12exp & 36exp rolls or the bulk rolls. They also have new packaging for them too.

Great news! Prior to their disappearance Ultrafine Extreme 100 and 400 were the best deal around for black and white. It is an excellent general purpose film. We probably won’t see 100 foot rolls for $39 though…

the choices for budget films in 120 is great! Now we have Foma 100/200/400 (US$7), Kentmere 100/400 (US$6), Bergger 400 (US$8), and soon Ultrafine 100/400 (US$7.50) all under $8 per roll. Of the bunch the only one I don't like is Ultrafine 400, though that may have been more my fault. On the color side, 200 Gold is US$8.60.

The Finesse 100/400 films are most likely Foma, the Xtreme films are may be either Kentmere or Ilford Pan (from what Ive seen online Ilford Pan isnt generally distributed/sold worldwide & available in selected markets, so it may just be repackaged for the US market)

so what is it?? obviously Ultrafine don't make film

Definitely a Harman product, one that is close or identical to either Kentmere or Ilford Pan. I suspect the latter as the Extreme 100 I used was maybe a tad less grainy than Kentmere 100 used similarly. Either way, close enough to be interchangeable. Less experience comparing Extreme 400 with anything similar.

Ultrafine extreme? or ultrafine Finesse?

Extreme. I found it very grainy and it was a unpleasant TV static type of grain. As I said it could very well have been my fault--I was just getting back into home developing when I tried it out.

I shot a lot of it, used MCM 100, Clayton F76+, D76, Edwal FG7, Rodinal. The 100 has pretty good grain, not Tmax 100 good, but as good as Foma 100. The 400 can be pretty grainy, D76 stock. I don't recall if I used Microdol X, but my guess it be a good choice to tame the grain the the tradeoff of lower ISO.

This is awesome news, thank you for sharing @Disconnekt! The website now shows 36 exposure and 100-foot bulk rolls. I plan to buy a bulk roll of the Ultrafine eXtreme 400 as soon as it's available.

Maybe this has already been posted here somewhere, but I just got an email from Photo Warehouse saying Ultrafine Extreme is back. Picture showed it in 35mm and 120. In 35mm it say metal cassettes DX coded. The price they have doesn't seem like as good a deal as it was before. Plus, we don't have any idea as to what or who makes this stuff.

They posted on Instagram that UFX is back.

I love UFX400 in bulk. I shoot at 800 and there's no issue. It's good stuff. I missed it when it was gone, I'll be picking up a few bulk rolls.

These are almost certainly Kentmere films, so if you've missed them, just buy Kentmere, which is widely available. A 100 foot roll of Kentmere 400 is $71.38 and the same roll sold as Ultrafine Xtreme 400 is $73.95
So if it's true that these are the same film, you can buy it under either brand name and expect to get the same product.

I've shot both side by side. Dunno, the Kentmere and UFX didn't look the same. Maybe I just had a different version of UFX.

Now that I am looking at some of my older images from last year, one of them that was shot on Kentmere 400 at EI 800, the grain does sort of match that of Cholentpot's image with the slight difference of the grain structure appearing a touch softer in my image. Could be on account of using D-23, undiluted. The tones, lower tones, look slightly deeper with the Kentmere, both at EI 800 and at box speed. In my case: Kentmere at EI 320/250 seems to be the sweet spot.

I don't know if its Kentmere or not, but a detail that may go against that theory is that Kentmere just recently added 120 to the list of formats, but UFX was available in 120 for quite a long time before that. It certainly possible that they made 120 film for a bulk purchaser but not for themselves, but it seems a little unusual.

The Kentmere 120 has a blueish base, so I'll be curious to see if the UFX 120 has that as well.

Now I'm gonna have to buy a bulk roll of Kent and see if it matches...
