We seem to have finished the poll with a slight bias towards the weekend of 4/6th April. May we therefore assume that is the choice of weekend settled?

Most certainly settled with me.

I am happy to commit to a booking for the 4th /6th April as soon as every one has expressed their thoughts and feelings about the weekend.

Regards

Stoo

I'm just back home and will visit the hotel in the next few days to get some more details. Meanwhile if anyone has any specific questions please post them here so that I can take a list with me.

Just back from the Beach House Hotel in Seahouses and the deal for the 4th to 6th April weekend is as follows:-

Dinner, Bed and Breakfast per person £50
No single room supplement
Dinner menu will give a choice of 3 each of Starters, Main course and Desert, however should anyone prefer the main menu they can have that and pay the difference.
If you have any special dietry requirements please let them know when booking.
The telephone number is 01665 720337
Please mention that you are part of the APUG group and mention my name.
There is plenty parking space

I've arranged for Miller to pay double but also arranged for a large portion of cheescake to be left in his room each evening.

They are currently extending the hotel and have a large private room that will be available for our private little arguments....oops sorry discussions.

The Hotel looks on to the North Sea and the Farne Islands, is within 5 minutes drive of Bamburgh Castle and quite near to some excellent beaches and only 35 minutes from my home in the heart of the Cheviot Hills.

We are known as "Les' group"

I spoke to Malcom who promised me that I won't want to go back to London after I have gone up there.

Room booked

I am choked
Just looked up the train fares to Alnmouth, and saw that the cheap return ticket is at 126£ and if my train combinations don't fall into the cheap saver window, I am good for a 250£ return
That can't be true, can it?

Rob, can you get us discount, tips or something?

No pressure here, and I know how you enjoy to travel alone, but if you wish, you could get a train to Stevenage (21 mins fron Kings Cross) and travel up with me. All it would cost you then is a breakfast on the way!

I am just thinking of a way to save you all that money. As I said, no pressure, and I will not be at all offended if you wish to travel alone, especially as it is nice sometimes just to sit and gaze at the English countryside from a train window without feeling that you have to interact with anyone.

The offer is open, feel free to accept or decline as you so wish.

All the Best

Stoo

Look for a flight, my last trip to Edinburgh cost £30 return from Birmingham, my sister got a similar priced flight from Southampton, cheap flights can often be found to and from airports you'd never realise exist.

Fair comment Ian but getting from either Edinburgh or Newcastle, which is closer to Seahouses, presents even more problems as local bus services are not too good or very regular.

Delphine, if you don't take up Stoo's offer have a look at purchasing two single tickets instead of one return. I travel to London Kings Cross regularly by train and pay as little as £25 single although I do have a senior citizens pass that gets me 25% discount. However, my wife travelled one way to London two weeks ago for less that £50 without a senior citizen pass.

I'm pleased to see numbers growing and I'm looking forward to meeting the people behind the posts.

Delphine, you should be able to get to Northumberland for a LOT less then £126 return. Fares start at around £20 each way. Reservations open about 3 months before departure. If anybody wants to go by train, PM me in February and I'll try to get some deals. Berwick-on-tweed may be a better bet than Alnmouth, as it's nearer Seahouses, has reasonable bus conections and a lot more trains.
Should be a great weekend!

Delphine,

I'm also driving up from London but I will be staying on for an extra day or so. I'm sure that Stoo or I could help out here if you decide not to take the train. As Stoo says 'no pressure'. Let us know nearer the time.

Regards

Barry

Rob, you are probably correct regarding travelling to Berwick upon Tweed. I live only 20 minutes from Berwick and I'd be happy to collect 3 people from Berwick if we can arrange for them all to be on the same train.

I have booked in for Jean and myself. Being an ex-builder I'm a bit worried about the completion date. Should I put a tent in my gadget bag?
