GOOD NEWS ON THE ACCOMMIODATION

I have just got back from another look around the hotels and have struck a very good deal with the Queens Hotel in Penzance. The hotel can be viewed here:

www.queens-hotel.com

When looking at the tariff please ignore the prices quoted as we have a special quoted APUG rate with NO supplement being made for occupancy by a single person in a double room.

The hotel also has a large private car par to the rear and 70 bedrooms so late bookers will have a better chance of getting into the hotel than a smaller one.
The rate I have for this if £70.00 per night which includes breakfast and dinner.

If this deal meets with general approval I will start up new thread with the booking details, so you can proceed to book, and will also confirm with the hotel that we shall be coming. Please can a few of you indicate one way or the other ASAP so I can crack on and get this sewn up before Christmas.
Neil.

You can count me in Neil.

Thank you for you hard work

Best

Stoo

Good work work Neil, this looks ideal.
Like we agreed - Penzance is probably the best location regarding acess to all the sites etc. Loads to see and photograph right outside the front door and a very short hop across to St Ives on the north coast. Also not far from spectacular Lands end coastline, Cot Valley, Sennen and all.
Only problem - not enough time to see it all in two days !

Time for every one to come forward and get this fixed up.

Bill

What exactly is the £70 tariff for? I'm looking for double occupancy so is that per person per night or per room per night? Bit thick about these things, sorry, I don't travel much and usually end up staying with friends so hotel prices are a bit unusual to me at times.

Heather,

The £70 is the quoted D&BB rate per person per night in single or double room with no extra surcharge - which is good for singles not sharing. But I see a better deal can be had for sharing couples via the hotel's Special Offers (see their web site). So if you are coming with a partner book up this way.

Neil.

Well done Neil, nice find.

Let me know when were booking?

Is there a party/group name we should book under to get Neils excellent rate.

I cannot commit until much nearer the time.

Thanks

Martin

I will be posting full booking details later today so watch this space

I hope to be popping along as well, as it'll be good to meet up with everyone again; need to ensure the finances can cope though.

Does anyone know if there's a local airport, so I can cut down the traveling time?

Brian

There's a very small airport at Newquay which is about 30-40 miles from the hotel - sorry, dont have a link for it at this moment
Be good to see you

Bill

Brian, Exeter is the nearest airport with flights to anywhere sensible

Have you thought of the train - Penzance is a Main Line Station ?

Martin

Wish I could come along. Hope next year will be better.

Wishing you all going lots of good light and fun!!!

Too bad

You can always change your mind nearer the date

You know where we will be if you do manage to find yourself in the south west that weekend

Unfortunately (for you) our Spring 08 meet was in Seahouses, where we had a great time helped no doubt by the lots of weather we encountered

The group is an amazingly friendly lot and keen to add to its ranks

Martin

I can only endorse what Martin has said about these friendly and informal gatherings and thank you to Martin for pointing this out. I have travelled quite a few miles myself to attend the 2008 dos and they were very worthwhile and I even managed to come back with a few half decents  So if you have not been one before and are maybe a little concerned about meeting a new bunch of people - concern yourself not as you will have a good time with like-minded people, get to photograph some amazing scenery, make some new friends and will be alreaday looking forward to the next one!

Neil.

I may attend, but it's a toss up between the UK meet or the Ireland meet, and also depends on when we next visit Europe anyway :D If I (we as my wife wouldn't want t6 be left out) do come to Cornwall we will rent a cottage as it's a huge saving in costs, and I know the area. I'm shooting in Cornwall fairly regularly anyway if it can't co-incide with an APUG meet so be it.

We hope you and yours can make Cornwall Ian, there should be plenty of affordable cottages available at that time. We look forward to meeting you each if you can make it.

I've decided to drive as it gives me more flexibility, however, I thought I might spend a couple of extra days traveling back to Manchester. Can anyone recommend a photogenic place to stop on the way back?

Brian

Brian, you could try the Somerset Levels for something very different from Manchester and the Peak District.

Very, very flat with plenty of hedges and lots of sky - it would be a challenge.

In the same vicinity is Glastonbury Tor – which sticks up from the flat surrounding land like a beacon

I may have missed this in the postings but ..... Does the event start on the Friday (day) or is the start considered to be at the evening on the Friday.
(It makes a difference to travel plans.)
