I took delivery today of two Vivitar lenses. Both are 28-90mm f/2.8-3.5 Serie 1s. The first one I opened was in Canon FD mount. The glass was OK but it had two problems. The rear section was slightly loose and the aperture will not close down. That's common with this lens in FD mount. It's the version with the black mounting ring, which looks nice on my Canon F-1s.

The second lens is in Nikon AIS mount and looks beautiful. After examining it carefully I found something odd. The red focus indicator marking on the focusing ring would not co e to top dead center. I am guessing that at some point, someone had the lens apart and when it was reassembled, the focusing ring must have been installed out of phase. The lens is perfectly usable as it is as long as I don't need to know how far away my subject is. The 28-90 is a very nice lens but finding one in good condition is not always so easy.
