I have an old Gitzo Reporter tripod that was old when I got it probably 15 years ago. I can't find any model number on it, all it says is Gilux Reporter. How do ID this to try and find replacement bushings for the legs?
-) diameter of widest tube
-) number of tubes per leg
-) height
Already the material and diameter of the leg you are looking the bushing for should be sufficient. But then you must tell whether you refer to the tube that holds the bushing or the tube that goes into the bushing...
In the Gitzo catalog you also find information to exactly code your tripod, but in this case the data above should be sufficient to order a spare from Gitzo.
As I said If you for whatever reason need some sort of order code for your old tripod, look in the catalog and sort it out figure by figure. Though the old tripods had a deviating coding system, it should still get you further.
But then still you would need to somehow designate the very bushing you need!
To their own saying Gitzo once offered over 100 versions of their tripods. How would you expect us to fnd out yours, even in case you gave us a description of your sample?
To my understanding the term "Reporter" only referred to the leg diameter, nit withstanding that at leasr one other range range had same diametr. You see things fast become complicated.
Thus what I advised in my post above seems to me the way to go.
AgX, I was not expecting you, or anyone else, to figure it out for me. I was however, looking for guidance. My tripod has no model numbers, which makes looking at every tripod in the catalog a bit daunting, as there are hundreds of different model numbers, and since mine has no model numbers.................
I thought, perhaps, someone else had been down this road and might have insite.
As indicated you primarily do not need a model number, but a way to describe the very bushing to get a spare.
Furthermore I gave you an advice how to code your tripod as such in case you find using a code the better approach.
This does not mean to look at hundreds of models (in case they ever were listed with photos...)
Gitzospares only documents relatively recent models, you'll need to do some exploring and figure out the model number of a current-ish tripod with the same dimensions as your Reporter. I have a Reporter too, as well as a more recent Mountaineer, which thankfully does have a model number.
I think the Reporter amounts to a series 2. This post has a good explanation of how the model numbers work; https://www.photrio.com/forum/threads/the-older-gitzo-tripods.18850/#post-260353
Have you tried taking it apart and cleaning it? My Mountaineer is a recent acquisition, and just a good cleaning did wonders. The bushing kits are fairly expensive, so you might be able to save some money.
And yes, figuring out what's what with Gitzo tripods is maddening.
