I need some tips in how to open the focusing ring barrel on the Nikon 28mm f3.5 ai. I have been watching this clip to get an idea how to open the lens. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qDIww4C1C34

I don't have a strap wrench at the moment. Are there any easier way to unscrew the focusing ring barrel?

Rubber sheet (most likely at hand: old bike tube).

Alternative to using the hand directly on that sheet, one could use a good fit hose clamp. Use a second layer of sheet to keep the lock away from the barrel and from putting pressure on the barrel.

Thanks guys...I had tried with a leather belt and wrapping around the barrel with some large rubberband. It won't turn. I had tried using a big cable tie to tie it down with a rubberband, to get more grip. It won't turn. I will probably try it with a strap wrench in few weeks. I just want to open it up and to clean up some smears inside the lens elements. They aren't visible unless I shin a flash light into it.
