Trouble with Jobo CPE2 Motor (Very Slow)

When I turn on the power of this CPE2 processor, the magnetic drive spins, but very slowly. Both 1 and 2 positions. When I put on any tank, the motor would just stop spinning.

Other than replacing the motor, what else can I do? I'm not sure if it is worth the trouble to replace the motor. I can just get another used working unit.

It may be the motor or something else on the board like a bad resistor or transformer.

I have found that the bearings can dry out over time depending on how much work they are asked to do. This causes the the motor to 'labour' and if not rectified it can burn out. The last time I came across this was on a very old CPE model some years back but rectified it by putting a drop or two of very (extremely) light oil on the bearings and leaving it overnight. The following day it was like a new machine.

The motor might still have some life in it (if the problem is not elsewhere, though most likely it is the motor it self), and a couple of drops of oil on the lower bearing (need motor taken apart) and upper might help, though if you are saying the motor does not change speeds in both switch modes, it might not be the motor.

Thanks for the help. Since the motor still runs, I'm not sure if the motor if faulty, or the bearing or any other moving parts are faulty.

Maybe I was not clear the first time. This is the old CPE2, when I switched to #1 or #2 speed, I could not tell if the motor moves at same or different speed. It moves just so slow.

As to get to the bearings, I need to take offer the cover and get to the motor?

What else can it be besides the bearing?

This is the update. I removed the cover. Put in some motor oil through the shaft. Then put in some water and connected the CPE2. The same. The motor runs slowly, then stops. Something makes clicking sound, not sure from the motor, or from relay or capacitor. Something smells bad. So I had to shut off. It appears the motor is fine, but some part of the circuit board has problem. Like a bad capacitor or something. It tries to power up the motor, but not enough voltage or current. The motor should be good since it runs.

Yes, it does run at slightly faster speed at #2 speed. But not fast enough and it stops and won't continue.

Not sure what to do next. It is so hard to get Jobo repaired....

You could have a fried PSU. I know that my Jobo's PSU didn't work at all when I purchased it, so I just wired it up to use a variable power supply.

Does the water heat? From memory, the heating circuit runs of of mains power, the motor circuit runs via a PSU that supplies 2 different voltages.

I also, though, ended up killing the motor. The brushes were jammed, which caused arcing and then overheating, finally ending with melting.....I ended up buying a DC motor with a reduction gear, fettling the case out and fitting that.

The heater runs, no problem. I can also hear the heater relay working. So right now, this thing is just a warming bath. The smell is like burning hard plastic. Maybe from the main large capacitor near the motor.

just get another used but working unit.You can use your current unit as a tempering bath.
