I have a Manfrotto 028 with a 808RC4 head; I want to shoot with my RZ67 straight down for macro or close shots at different surfaces. Is it possible to remove the centre column and use it upside down ? Thanks.

Try it. Removing the center column and reinstalling upside down can be done with most modern tripods. Some tripods even had a mounting screw thread protruding from the bottom of the column.
