My trusty Gitzo reporter is sadly no more and I need a replacement. Looking for a lightweight hiking tripod that will support my Wista and Pentax 6x7. I have a budget of about $250.

Thanks in advance

I like my new Gitzo, but in that price range, the Feisol tripods from China have been getting very good reviews. There are a couple of good threads on them on the LF forum at lfphoto.info.

For hiking with my lightweight 4x5 I got a small Benro from China. I've been very please with the quality and especially the quality, weight and compactness. I modified it to use it without the center column. Works great.

Well I got a Feisol

I ended up ordering a Feisol CT-3371 carbon fiber. The shipping and delivery from Taiwan was incredible. I ordered on January 3 and it was delivered to my house on the 7th.

I am more than pleased with the quality and weight of the pod; and it handles my 4x5 with ease; and with my heavier Graf ball head mounted handled my 5x7 Tachihara as well.

I also splurged on their panning head - very well made and a bargain....

Thanks for the recommendations, if I had the $$'s I would have gone the Gitzo sigh but I am a happy camper. I already have a Berlebach but that is a little too heavy for me for carrying around all day with the rest of my gear.

Cheers

Mike
