My guess is the copious amounts of Canadian Club they've been imbibing all day had more to do with it.

Yes, he was a staff photographer for the San Francisco Examiner from 1945 to 1985 and also submitted many cool photos to magazines over the years. He was a filmmaker, too, an exceedingly talented man. I have his massive archive of thousands of prints and negatives. He started taking pictures in the 1930s when he was a teenager. I have hundreds of those as well.

That looks like a photo from a movie I once saw, a fictional story where the electricity went out in a storm for a guy in one of those. That was not a fun movie to watch!
