Those guys look totally hammered.

The flashbulbs in reflectors used to illuminate them might have had a role in that

Yes, he was a staff photographer for the San Francisco Examiner from 1945 to 1985 and also submitted many cool photos to magazines over the years. He was a filmmaker, too, an exceedingly talented man. I have his massive archive of thousands of prints and negatives. He started taking pictures in the 1930s when he was a teenager. I have hundreds of those as well. 👍

"And a good day to you, sir!"

That looks like a photo from a movie I once saw, a fictional story where the electricity went out in a storm for a guy in one of those. That was not a fun movie to watch!

Ah no, it's much more lighthearted. The Big Lebowsky, Coen brothers. It's a classic.

I saw The Big Lebowsky years ago but don't recall a scene like that. But then, it was years ago....!

From Wikipedia:
"Immediately after the surrender of Japan, 54 ships of the Third Fleet returned to the United States, with Halsey's four-star flag flying from USS South Dakota, for the annual Navy Day Celebrations in San Francisco on 27 October 1945"

From Paul McCartney:
"Admiral Halsey notified me
He had to have a berth or he couldn't get to sea
I had another look and I had a cup of tea...

Wow, a photo of him smiling !?
Rare, indeed!
By most accounts, he was a fairly intense individual.

The war was over, he survived, and he could get back to riding his horse? And maybe my dad told him a joke!😂

Remarkable how much James Cagney (who played him in The Gallant Hours) looks like him!
