Tri-X sheet film

Can you get regular old Tri-X film in in 4x5 sheets? All I seem to find is Tri-X 320, which I understand is a lot different. What are the major differences between the 320 and normal Tri-x?

It's kind of annoying if tri-X is not available in sheets, considering I could use it in all formats if it was.

i don't think they still make trix 400 in sheets
just 320 ... have you used tx320?
you might like it as much
as you do tri x 400 ...
i know some folks
suggest it should be shot in a studio
or it is a harder film to process ...
with a longer toe &C,
but to be honest
i can't really tell that much of a difference
between the two ... and i have shot tri x since about 1980 ...
inside, outside in controlled lighting, and crazy lighting ..
and i have never had trouble processing it
( i have used sprint chemistry, dk50, xtol, tmaxrs, gaf universal,
ansco130, coffee developers and coffee+ansco130)
its not as finicky as "the experts" say ...

I used to feel the same way when i started shooting LF...but, have since reversed my opinion. I prefer 320TXP to 400TX and wish they made 320TXP in small format as well.

There was Tri-x 400 in sheets until just a few years ago, and was my primary 4x5 film since the 70s. Seems like it was discontinued when consumption of all film diminished, and maybe Kodak had to make a choice. Sales may have indicated that the 320 version (developed for studio portaiture, IIRC) was the more popular choice to remain available, although that would surprise me.
I remember the first time Calumet sent me the 320 stuff, after I had ordered "Tri-x", never having specified before. I tried it, and it works fine for me, though I haven't done any serious comparisons. I still use Tri-x400 for 2 1/4 and 35mm and don't make any adjustments for it.

I use the 320 and swear by it. A pain that I can't use the T-Max Developer with it in 4x5 (Kodak recommends T-Max RS due to some salting out issues), but I soup it in Rodinal 1:50 and it is luscious. It is now my favourite medium speed film in MF too. Lovely contrast and extremely sharp. Rgds, kal

Anyone ever use TXP in diafine? Regular TriX at 800-1250 in diafine is a staple combination for me.

I never liked anything in Diafine...but, 320TXP does look wonderful in Acufine.

TXP/Acufine, EI 640 is my usual handheld 4x5" combo. Lately, I've been using Paul Farber's homebrew Acufine-like developer

Well if they did it was prior to 1973 because it's not listed in my Kodak Professional Films booklet from that year. Only 320 Tri-x in sheets. They did make Royal Pan in sheets and it was a 400 speed film. It looks like the Royal Pan curve is a little more like 400 Tri-X but I'm not sure of the differences. Are you named after Super Panchro-Press film 6146?

i have a boatload of 5x7 tri x and maybe 1 box of 4x5 that expired in the 1990s. i worked for someone who would
order 20 or 30 100sheet boxes of 5x7 tri x about once every month ... and that was in 1988/1989 ...

Are you talking about 400 speed Tri-x not 320 speed?

Before the most recent version, Tri-X 320 sheet film was TXT, which was yet another thing.

i just realized the fine print says: iso 320

i always shot it at 400
and never knew the difference
i don't have any of the stuff
my boss shot, it was -----v-v-v- though
i know that for sure ..
