Hello

I just bought 12 packs of Tri-X this morning. When I got home, I grabbed a bag and ran into the house (thinking it was the bag that I had the film in). Unfortunately, it wasn't. The film sat in my car for about 1 1/2 hours. I also had 2 rolls of Delta 3200.
Do I need to be concerned that the film may have been affected by the heat in the car. The boxes were warm to the touch when I picked them up out of the bag. The cooled off very quickly though.

Thanks for you help!
Nancy

Hi Nancy, it's happened to me before and the boxes were quite warm. I shot a test roll to be on the safe side and it was perfectly all right and then used the rest up with no problems at all either. I'd recommend you do a test roll as well, just to be sure. Good luck! Kind regards, Nicole

Sorry Jaun..more info. I'm in Massachusetts. It's about 80 degrees today. I had the windows open in the car, but it still got pretty warm, not stifiling hot though.
Nicole...thanks for replying. I will definetly shoot a test roll. My gut feeling is that the film is probably fine. But I'm going to do that to be on the safe side.

It's frequently 80 degrees inside my house in December - much warmer in the summer. I load my film holders and cameras and leave them sitting around until I shoot them - sometimes two or three weeks. I've never noticed any damage from the heat. I think if you had left the film in the car with the windows up for a substantial number of hours you might have a problem, but I don't see that you've done anything harmful. As Nicole says, though, try a test roll before doing something important.

Dear Nancy,

Don't even think of worrying about it. My wife Frances Schultz and I (www.rogerandfrances.com) have had colour and mono film stay in the 90s for hours on end (in India), often for several days at a stretch. And we've driven across the US 7 times, coast to coast, usually in summer, with film. It is not a problem. You can't see any difference even in the colour, let alone the mono.

Cheers,

Roger

Nancy,

I'm betting with the crowd that the film is okay.

And look at it this way - at this point, what difference does it make? The deed is done.

As Nicole suggests - shoot a roll and see if it's okay. But I think you'll find Tri-X can take a little heat. Remember, the box itself, plus the plastic cannister act as insulators.

Definetely not an issue with the Tri-X; I've shot Tri-X that've been in worse conditions for longer than that, and there was no difference that i could see.

The Delta 3200 may be affected, but that doesn't sound too likely, it's pretty robust ...

Whew!! You have all eased my mind. I shot a test roll this afternoon and will have it developed asap to check.
I appreciate that you all took the time to help me out!

Another point: Consider all the people who order film by mail or who ship exposed film off by mail to mail-order photofinishers. The film sits in shipping depots, delivery trucks, and even corner mailboxes for hours or even days. If this caused problems on a regular basis, Internet forums would probably be filled with tales of those problems. I can't recall ever seeing a single one, although I do sometimes run across advice to mail-order film in the spring to avoid unnecessary heat exposure.

I have dragged film round the Jordanian desert for two weeks with no ill effect, so it will probably survive an hour in a hot car.

David.

Thanks again. Just too be sure, I shot a roll yesterday and dropped it off at the lab this morning.
Everything you guys have pointed out makes sense!

The film looks great! Thanks for asking Nicole!
Wish me luck..big shoot tomorrow and on Monday.

Go Nancy!
