Tri-X price increase

Tri-X, which has been selling for $3.99 for ages at B&H, is now listed at $4.50 (135/36 exp). You can still purchase it at $3.99 a roll, but this is a discounted price while supplies last. I just stocked up.

Not sure if I'll stock up or not. I usually prefer 24 exposure cartridges. It takes long enough to shoot an entire roll of 35 as it is.

I know what you mean. I have using 120 on my RB67 which is only 10 exposure.

In Dallas, petrol stayed under $1 a gallon until ~2000/2001. And then it went up. :confused:

Got an e-mail that it's back in stock and they were down to 4 rolls of TX 120 again, out of 4x5" TXP, which I could also use. Used the coupon to stock up on Delta 3200 120 instead.

I remember when it was 99¢ a roll! Didn't think anything of it, using it as a test roll for loading new/used TLS, etc. I switched to 95% Rollei films now though. If I'm going to pay a higher price for a roll of film, I want an equally higher quality product.

Not that your username belies any bias...

But I don't think I have ever heard a complaint about the quality of Kodak products.

I am of the opinion that Kodak are the highest quality and most consistent of any photo products.

It's $6.99 at Henry's in Toronto, Canada, plus 13% HST, consider yourself lucky you can get it for $4.50......

No, I never had a complaint with Tri-X. In fact, when living in CT, Tri-X & X-Tol was my favorite
combination. But that was about 13 years ago. The correlation of price-to-quality, is that if I'm going
to pay $5 or more per roll, I'll use Rolleipan films.

In testing, I've found them to be consistently higher quality results from my Rolleiflex TLRs, Mamiya 645Pro,
or Nikon N90s, over Tri-X. I still keep Tri-X in the freezer, as well as a couple of bricks of APX 25.

You guys gotta stop complaining. In Halifax N.S. It's hard to find film under $9 a roll! The last time I bought Tri-x I paid $9.99 and the store I bought it from told me that Kodak was raising their prices and their cost would be above their current retail! I like to buy local but man, with the prices you're quoting maybe I'll have to start shopping online...

Fotch and others mentioned a valid point about inflation. Perhaps N. Americans can take solace from the fact that we (the outsiders) pay, subject to film and geographic location, about 10-30% more than you lot.

even though the thread is old, i find the compliant amusing. why are we so darn cheap when it comes to our raw materials? an artist will buy the finest linin canvas, the best paint n highest quality brushes.

but photographers bitch over a few pennies. at the ops quoted prices for 135/36... considering one frame will cost 11¢ inflated to 12.5¢ per frame, its still a bargain! that single frame may produce a print that has the potential of selling for $500 each for any number of reproductions.

thats a great profit margin. so why complain over the price of film?
