Need to know the dilutions, time, and temperature for developing the latest version of Tri X in a rotary processor. Thanks!

I'd like to throw my phishing line out there...

It is not my intent to hijack this thread, but thought the more the merrier when it pertains to info?

I shoot 8x10 and mostly print on silver (Ilfrod warmtone fiber) and sometimes PTPD. I'd say that I like my negs quite high contrast(I generally overexpose by 1 stop and overdevelop a bit too), though I don't routinely measure with a densitometer I'd guess that I like them with a High Light at about 1.3-1.5(maybe I should measure a few negs and get clarify tomorrow). I currently use TMAX RS developer(with jobo) but would like to explore the pyrocat world a bit.

I'm curious what you would recommend.

Thanks in Advance,

Corey

Well I'd like to know...

Sandy,

I use 35mm TX and I develop 10min @75 F and usually print on Bergger VCCB. This works well for me. I'm curious to know if this is close to what you would reccomend, and how you would modify it for graded paper. Thanks!

TX or TXP?

Personally, I just did my own little test, because I was tired of inconsistent results..
I shot 4 identical shots and developed for 7-9-11-13 minutes, so as soon as I get to print them,I`ll know what`s the best development time for an overcast scene here in Norway is
I`ve read every PyrocatHD/Tri-X thread here on Apug, and still felt I had to do this, because of all the personal varibles in metering, enlarging ect...

Assuming you use the 1:1:100 dilution of Pyrocat-HD and develop with rotary processing at 70F, and further that you would like a negative DR of about 1.35 for printing on VC silver papers, I would make the following development recommendations.

N-1 9 minutes
N 15 minutes
N+1 25 minutes

If using the 2:2:100 dilution, multiple times by about .60. That would be

N-1 5:20 minutes
N 9:00 minutes
N+1 15:00 minutes

I don't suggest EFS because this depends greatly on equipment and metering system and techniques.

Sandy, just curious about the new tri-x. I don't use it, but what capabilities does it have for expanding & contracting? You've listed 3 times, does it stand more, or is it pretty well maxed out with this narrow range of values? tim

P.S. Still pretty spoiled by the Efke 100 & pyrocat

I don't find it to be a very good film for expansion. When the desired DR is 1.35 or more you will be lucky to get even N+1 out of it. It does contract nicely, however.

Some folks may claim more expansion with other developers, but the maximum potential for CI is about 99% in the film and the developer plays a small role.

If you can get the 1.4 with some non-staining developer, then you can add to it by bleaching and redeveloping in Pyrocat. That would be an emergency ploy, so test it first on a throwaway neg. You can also bleach an redevelop Pyrocat or PMK negs, which will increase the stain image but only restore the silver part. Again, test on a throwaway.

Ok, that just got my attention. Does the redevelopment create as much image stain as the initial development? Would dev., bleach, dev. yield twice as much image stain?
