Tri-X 400 at 1600 in Microphen - ID68 development time

Hi

As the title says, I've uprated a roll of 400TX, using EI1600 and I've already made some ID68, supposedly something very close to Microphen. It's not something really valuable, mostly a test roll. So, does anyone have any personal experience and recommend a development time for push processing my film? I know I can have a look at the massive dev chart and I've already done so, but I'd like to know your times and opinion on the results.

I regularly push Tri-X to 1600 in Microphen at 1+0 and 1+1, using Massive Dev chart times. I prefer the 1+0 results.

Ok, so I used it neat, developed for 12' at 20°C and agitated 10'' every minute. The negatives look ok (they're drying).

While we are at it, does anyone (Ian Grant?) know how to replenish ID68? How many ml of replenisher per film?

Hmmm, found the answer: "Add to the developer tank as required to maintain the level of solution", according to an Ilford publication. Doesn't sound very specific, perhaps 20ml would be ok?

High sulfite, low alkalinity PQ developers like ID-68 typically yield a speed increase of between 1/2 to 1 stop. Kodak states that Tri-X can be pushed by 1 stop so using this film/developer combination puts you just on the edge of what would be acceptable. However it's always best not to push film. TANSTAAFL

Replenishment is used with stock bottles or deep tanks you keep the level in the stock bottle fixed by adding fresh developer.

Alternatively increase time for each film by 10%.

As Ilford suggest.

I'm aware of the top up system of replenishment, it's just that I don't feel comfortable about it. It seems too vague compared to the bleed system.

I accept that but that is all I'm aware of.
You can pick another PQ formula, with replenishment formula or use 1+3 ID68 for economy.
I just develop 10 135 per litre of stock increasing the time per film.
But I filter the return back to the stock bottle cause I get chips of film otherwise.
