I've been processing a single 8x10 sheet with 10sec/2min agitation. I do this by removing the film from the developer, draining, and turning 180deg then back in.

If I stack 4 sheets and shuffle every 2 minutes, will I get the same effect with regards to development? Or, will the fact that film is sitting on top of film change the effective development compared to single sheet?

I guess a better way to put it is, If I have 2 sheets stacked in a tray, will the upper sheet develop differently than the lower sheet?

Or, would I be better using 8x10 film hangers?

Thanks

If you want to do this kind of semi-stand development, I think it's probably not a good idea to stack the sheets. Hangers would probably be a better option. There's also the option of a "slosher," but that would require 16x20" trays and I've heard that for stand development one gets less mottling if the sheets are vertical.

I routinely do 8x10 semi-stand (thus horizontal position)development in my slosher tray. I have never had a problem with mottling or other forms of uneven development (I use Pyrocat-HD). I have done side-by-side comparisons with tube development (semi-stand, vertical position) and can not see any differences.
