The battery thing: what we hear about in the news is passenger airliner catastrophes. But there have already been cargo jets downed by shipments of
ordinary lithium flashlight batteries, which caught fire. I also happen to know, due to the nature of my work, that lithium batteries cannot be used for
any kind of portable tool used in combat or aerospace. For these, they still generally use very high quality Nickel Hydride batteries instead. If you're
up on the International Space Station and something goes wrong, you can't just call AAA !

The big difference is if you are travelling with carry-on luggage only or if you have checked in as well. When I travel with checked in I can take 10kg of camera stuff which usually means a 4x5 with a bunch of lenses, one or two Leicas with lenses and a Widelux. If I only have carry-on I'm more restricted and usually pack an Xpan with 30, 45 and 90mm as well as one XA and one XA4.

If you checked in anything of value like that in some of our airports here, you'd never see it again!

2 Canon F1 bodies 17, 24, 35, 50mm 100, 200 lenses and some film in my Manfrotto large advanced travel backpack and it's well within the weight and size limits, and goes in the overhead, my lightweight travel tripod goes in my checked luggage.

I could realistically put even a basic 8x10 system into a carry-on, provided the tripod was separate. Just take what you need. Too many lenses and
gadgets just slow you down anyway.

What I meant was that when I have checked in luggage all 10kg of carry-on will be camera stuff. There will only be a tripod in the checked in luggage.
