For Trade Trade: 4x5 for 6x7

I have just started shooting 4x5 but due to some very bad news I'll be moving to a small apartment near the city and wont be able to develop or print 4x5. This is not an urgent trade and I won't consider selling for a month or two in the hopes that things will lighten up. It seems that focusing on medium format would be a good way to continue my hobby and 6x7 is by far my favorite.

-I would only be interested in a Mamiya RB67 camera if it came as an outfit with lenses and accessories since I am not partial to the design.

No Koni-Omega Rapid kits either... with 58mm (w/ finder), 90mm, 135mm (rare), 180mm lenses?

Why not get a 6X7 or 6X9 rollfilm holder for your wista. And maybe a shorter FL lens.

FWITW I would go with the Pentax 67 or 6x7.... the bodies are bricks and the lenses are relatively inexpensive and very, very good.If flash is consideration, the shutters is focal plane so synch is very slow only, but for landscape and general work, they just can't be beat. Good luck. You will love your 6x7 work. Old age and arthritis hae pushed me that way and 6x6.....

Or what about a 6x12cm back? If you want a less panoramic format you can always use rise/fall and stitch two images together (if you're not against using PS) and you can have a final resolution/size very close to 4x5" with 120 roll film.

I am considering roll film backs...also the Pentax 67 is my most favored out of all the 6x7 cameras.

Nahh... just get a nice 6x12cm Horesman back. Use PS to sticth if you want. You can keep what you have and utilize sheet film later if/when you want to. You'll keep all your Scheimpflug movements too. It's the best of both worlds. I bought my Chamonix 45N-1 specifically to shoot 6x12cm roll film and doubt I'll ever shoot 4x5" with it. If I want (and feel well enough to carry it) I'll shoot 8x10".

Gee whizz, man, you can buy a NICE 6x9 RFH for less than $100US or a decent one for around $50US.

I have a Pentax 6x7 which I love, it's also my fave medium format camera. Definitely get one, they're quite affordable these days as well.

Just to keep things open I will consider a Mamiya RB67 with 90mm lens and a 150mm or 180mm. A prism and some filters would also be good. I don't care for extra backs, one is fine as I have no need for swapping film types.

Got an RB with a 90, a 127, and a 180 that I am thinking about selling. Also have a 250 with a busted diaphragm that can be shot, but will likely underexpose a tad due to one lame aperture blade that closes down a bit more than the rest.

What kind of Wista do you have? You have pix?

I know you think the RB is unwieldy, or whatever you think, but it is really a superior system to the Pentax 67 in nearly every way. Unless you are just stuck on the fact that the P-67 looks like a big 35mm, or need super critical film plane flatness (which you do not, for 99% of what most people shoot), the RB is the way to go, given the market for both systems at this time. The P-67 really does not handle any better IMHO, and they are also more expensive. I like them a lot, mind you, and would love to have a system, but there are many advantages to an RB for what most people shoot.

The main point, however, is that the P-67 really doesn't handle any easier to me. I would not agree that it is the better hand held camera.

I had an RB67 for a bit, loved it, loved the lenses, will probably get another at some point in the future, but at the moment, I'm too much of a poor student to afford two 6x7 systems and I find the P67 to be more portable and a far faster solution for the sort of street work I like to do. Were I a landscape man or a studio shooter, I'd have held onto the RB.

Ugh, I am the third party in this situation and things have just gone out of control. It is for sale, cash is needed. Will continue photography through medium format, my vision will live on!
