I just got hold of a Toyo 45a to replace my Intrepid 4x5.
Does anyone know the approx date range that this model was manufactured?

I bought mine new in 1990.

Thanks for the feedback - I used It for the first time yesterday for landscape and it’s so sturdy and has great positive adjustments - when compared with the Intrepid. Of course the downside is it’s heavy but I think for me this is a better camera.

It's such a durable and robust camera. I've had two and kicked myself each time after I sold it.

I have a Toyo 45AX (revolving back). Has to be 30 years old. These where made forever until at some point they went plastic. Great fanstastic light 4x5 that sell for very reasonable prices.

Better camera? You are comparing apples to pop tarts. The Toyo 45a is a superb camera, although it's not the lightest 4x5 on the planet. The 45a has been around for decades and came in different versions. I'm sure the link (above) will give you lots of details. Welcome to the real world of LF. Congratulations on the step up!
