I stumbled across APUg by accident while trolling for stuff on classic cameras and was delighted to find I was not the only one still using film. I have been involved in all facets of photography for over 30 years, starting out working in a B&W darkroom, brides and babies, retail and color lab work. Digital has pretty much stuffed trad. photography, but that's ok as it gives me more time for the important things and it also makes all those sweet analogue cameras nice and cheep! I'm full on to collecting as well as using gear from the 1940's to the early 70's. I also use a Linhof 5x4, Hassy and TLR Rolleis. Love the site and am looking forward to becoming more involved.

Hi Tony, welcome aboard APUG

Pssst...Tony...DO NOT look at the APUG classifieds...DO NOT get seduced by the resident ULF APUG'ers who only want to share their misery...

Have fun here, sounds like you pass the entrance exam.

Murray

P.S. Is it still winter where you are? Are you still able to get some tobogganing in? Did the pipes in your house freeze up this winter? Brrrrrr winters can be bitter eh?

Hi Tony,

Welcome from Hawaii. I assume you are in Victoria? Could you tell us where? We have a pretty good group of photographers in Victoria. Also, I'll be in Bright in October, then off to Adelaide to meet up with another APUG member for a shoot. Good to have you with us.

Hello Tony and welcome aboard from Yosemite!

Good day mate and a pleasure to meet you!

Thanks fellas. I actually in N.S.W. at the bottom, a place called Bega. We are only about 1hr from the Victorian border. My south east Australia thing has thrown a few into confusion I'm afraid. We are just into autumn(fall) here and the nearest snow is about a 2hr drive to the west in the aptly named Snowy Mountains. Ski season doesn't start until june. Personally I avoid the snow except for the odd photo trip, much more into water sport, we have the best beaches in OZ- that will get a few wound up! The bright thing sounds great, have to keep in contact about that.

Good, I'll have to tell my friend in Adelaide about you. He has relatives just up the road from you.

Welcome Tony. I was hoping by SE Australia your meant Sydney. So far I have not come across any other Sydney-based ape-huggers. I would not like the Victorians to think they have the jump on us in terms of photographic integrity. Although I have to sheepishly admit my favouite camera shops and live misic venues are in Melbourne!

Welcome Tony L (& and Tony E!),

It's always good to see Aussies keeping up the fight to keep film coming into the place. Welcome to the forum.

Tony E, you'll find Glenn from Sydney will pipe up soon - he likes to welcome the new members from Oz.

Cheers,
Graeme

Not to worry Tony. As Graeme points out Glenn will come around shortly, and he isn't the only one from Sydney.

Welcome from Melbourne. My wife has several colleagues who know Bega quite well, as they do business there (I'm sure you know where they do business).

Hi Tony,

Welcome from the foot of the Blue Mountains, there are a few of us ape-huggers in NSW, not all post.

I think you are right about Melbourne having the better camera shops - most of the good Sydney ones are closed down or gone D******.

Maybe we should try and arrange a photo shoot for the NSW group?

Regards

Brendan

Hi Tony,
this is the best place to learn about trad photography. So many people here know so much and are willing to share their knowledge.
Hopefully I'll get up to Bega later this year, my partner's family comes from Moruya and she wants me to see how beautiful it is there.
We had a small gathering of Aussie ape huggers in January at the Grampians and had fun getting to know each other face to face instead of just on the web. Hopefully we'll have another one sometime soon. We'd love you to come along.
Mike

Eh! This is Aus-tral-ia mate. NO tobogganning - ever.
NO frozen pipes - ever.

Might be able to fry an egg or two on the car bonnet tho.

G'day Tony & welcome from one of the Melbourne APUG'ers & Yeah, some of those beaches over your way are good, I remember doing some photos on one of those rocky beaches around Tilba (where I have friends) back in the late 80's. You're definitely in one of the nice parts of the World. But, who's going to argue about beaches from each State (?) we are surrounded by them here & they all have their positives. Enjoy the Forum, I have.

Yes Brendan - I think it might be nice to stir a few of the Sydney-siders. I would be interested in meeting in person at some stage. Apologies also to GlennSyd - I do now remember seeing his welcome posts to other OZAPUGERS.
