Way back in time, a couple friends of mine drove from Orlando to LA and have gas receipts at both ends of the trip on the same day just under 27 hours with the time changes. Mustang Mach 1 if I remember correctly.

BTW I have darkroom space at the house for film re-loading and even JOBO runs if it seems important to you. We should have 2 JOBO's. You supply labor / hours.

Jim

My biggest concern was just being able to reload the holders and what to do with the shot film. I think I'm just going to get some light tight bags to put them in.

Knowing nothing about the curriculum I'm curious how many sheets of 4x5 I should plan on bringing.

Are 7 holders enough for each day?

It totally depends on how you work. 7 wouldn't be enough for me. I'm a notorious film waster. It's very hard to judge, but err on the side of too much, not too little. J

Mark, I'll have to look, but I'm pretty sure I have at least 5 surplus 4x5 holders you can have for the postage if you want them.

Just got a new mini van, so I was thinking if this is realistic... has anyone done that before, 1 day and 18 hours seems fast. Anyone coming from NY area?

If you have the time to make that trip, I would encourage you to do it... the scenery will be beautiful, it is likely that the road will be good, and it is a road trip. Just the term "road trip", reminds me of college... of course that was back in the dark, olden days when we had rules like "you never hand the driver an unopened beer".

Thanks Outwest,

If they are truly surplus that would be great.

PM me after you look.

Anyone coming from NY area? I am looking for plane tickets tonight, is Vegas the closest airport? NYC to Las Vegas round trip goes for $270. Is renting a car the best alternative once I land in Vegas? What are others of you that are flying into Vegas doing?

Jaime,I'm driving over there for LA,I think from Los Vegas its about 100 miles north.I was planing on leaving the day before the work shop starts so as can get a good nite sleep. You should be able to rent a car in the airport in Vegas pretty easily. If you have problems I could swing by and give you a ride depending when your flight arrives.Get to use the family Cadillac for that week.

Brrrrr.............

It turned cold in Tonopah this weekend. That doesn't mean it will be nasty next month, sometimes the opposite. We typically have fine fall weather right up to Thanksgiving. But think ahead. We can work in just about anything but high wind. Even high winds can be thwarted by moving indoors at the mining park but we're hoping for fine weather out doors. Fine doesn't mean T-shirts. It means little or no wind but with crisp fall air.

I'm getting a ticket today, hotel picks next, I sure could use a nice winter coat, I've been walking the bike trail here and it's cold into the wind. I need some earmuffs too or a face sock!

I wonder where we will meet and at what time.

Of these, Best Western and Silver Queen are best located. Both owned by same folks. BW is newer nicer, SQ is older but clean and adequate. The Jim Butler is also well located and very nice. The Ramada would be my only other rec. Others listed are older.......

At the Best Western, the rooms are decorated with local art. My local art.

Thank you Jim

Just made my reservation at the Silver Queen. Took their weekly rate $192 total. I'm coming to Tonapah for "old stuff" so that fits right in.

If this is your first time for Las Vegas-Rhyolite trip, consider stopping at Death Valley Junction. Marta is getting up there in years....stop in and see the place before she is gone.

Great thought Don.

This weeks daytime weather looks nice but nights at or near 32 degrees, burrrr is right and it's not November yet! I have to rent a car and I hope it doesn't snow, I'm used to a Dodge Ram truck and a Jeep TJ.

OK Jim, reservations are made and film holders are stacked to the ceiling. It's time to whet our appetites, literally. Where are the best places for breakfast and dinner? Is there a Safeway or a sandwich shop to pick up something for lunch? Photoing builds a powerful hunger!

There is a Regional Group setup for the Tonopah Workshop, look above under Groups and sign in. I'm interested in the food question too, I just got a one year checkup reprieve from my Endocrinologist, I had been going every six weeks for a couple of years. I lost 10 pounds and brought all my lab numbers into norm. I'm looking forward to the trip and my first away from home diet challenge.

There's McDonalds and Burger King but that stuff would hospitalize anyone. There's a Mexican Restaurant that's great for dinner and has excellent Marguerita's. There's the Station House Restaurant for most any meal but it's a sit down kind of place. There's Hot Dogs on a stick kind of mini mart crap several places. There are Subs I think at the very south end of town but I've never had one. The market doesn't have a deli. No one will starve to death. We can figure it out.

No old time cafe where all the ranchers gather for breakfast/coffee early in the morning?

Curt, I can't find anything that says "Join". Is there a trick to it?
