Well...

Workshop is full!

Great group of people it looks like. All we have to do is be sure for Jim to organize great weather (meaning clouds, drizzle, fog, bright sun shine, a fresh dusting of snow, NO WIND!!!).

Great fun will be coming to Tonapah in November.

Think Photography, Fun, Great adventure, Great people, and of course Brass lenses - not just on old cameras but perhaps like this 100+ year old Cooke lens on a 5X7 Sinar P (See attached image!) - lens used to shoot the new image on my home page Dead Link Removed.
However just wait 'til you see Jim's collection!

If you want to come but are not on the list, be sure to email me to get on the waiting list - JUST in case...

I might bring my very very old Kodak 2D 5x7... or maybe just a Shen Hao 4x5...

Looking forward to the long drive this fall from southern Washington through Oregon and Nevada. Good opportunity to clear the mind, see some country that I have not seen before, and get ready do my favorite activity... learning. I'm new to large format and using barrel lens, and if can get a recently acquired 8x10 Kodak 2D working, I'd like to spend a little time at the knee of the masters learning how to use this new contraption. Some of you will probably have to tolerate my lame photographs of yourselves... I tend to take pictures of people and have dreams of taking Dead Link Removed when I grow up.

Good evening all,

I'm starting to think about routes and hotels and film and ...

I Googled for B&B's and didn't find any close. Camping in my VW van is still a thought but maybe a stretch at that time of year?

I also have been giving thought to film developing so I can free up film holders for the next day and get some feedback.

Any thoughts?

Until work realities forced me to cancel out, I was going to bring my 89 Ford Camper and use one of the campgrounds... But, you can do it in a VW. I have many friends with Westfalias and they camp all year round. My daughter and I did southern Utah last October in a pop top tent camper with no heat. It got down to 27 F in the mornings... good sleeping bags is all you need.

As far as film loading, a changing bag is a must.

Best of luck, try one of the Tonapah hotels if you don't want the possibility of winter camonig. They looklike fun.

Two weeks ago my son and his girlfriend went on their first vacation to San Francisco via a theme park in San Jose, Paramount? I believe. While in San Jose he was t-boned, I guess that's the expression, by a man with no license or insurance. Where the car he was driving came from I don't know but he just offered some money and when my son called the police he just bolted. My son has a nice Ford Mustang with a passenger door that looks completely demolished. They are OK but totally disgusted by it all. As a parent you hate to get that call, hey Dad a car hit us.

Anyway I digress, I'm flying to Las Vegas and renting a car and driving to Tonopah and staying in a hotel, I hope at the Station, it looks like fun.

Sorry you can't make it!

I've got the nice bag to sleep in.

Definitely bringing the changing bag, my question is more about actual developing of the film. I've got 7 4x5 holders, I figure I may shoot more than 14 sheets though. :D

I'm trying to figure out if I need to do this in the van or if there will be a real facility where we can all soup a little film or if I need a way to bag and box the exposed stuff.

If weather permits i will be sleeping in the back of my minivan until in Tonopah.
I am not going to develop any film while there, i prefer to do that in well known and tested environment (My bathroom)

Mike, that's what I'm doing, I always over estimate what I can do while sitting in my favorite chair at home. In reality changing film is enough without developing film til 3 in the morning.

Yeah, Great America in Santa Clara. I have lived here 15 years, work about a mile from it, and still have never been there. And no, no plans.

Sorry about the accident, things happen. This is a loverly area to spend your days waiting for your kids to grow up. Not to mention the work I do is centered here in the valley.

I guess a lot of people would love to have my problem, too much work to do, but it is annoying that I had to cancel out on Per and this group. I was looking forward to meeting some of the nicest people I have read about in APUG. Not to mention a bit of help sorting out the 8x10 Deardorff with people who actually know what they are doing.

Just got a new mini van, so I was thinking if this is realistic...

http://maps.google.com/maps?f=d&sou...6,-95.625&sspn=37.96902,79.013672&ie=UTF8&z=4

has anyone done that before, 1 day and 18 hours seems fast. Anyone coming from NY area?

Sounds like 42 hours or 4 10 hour days. Ouch. Besides, you'd get to Colorado and it would be so pretty you'd forget about coming on to Tonopah.

BTW I have darkroom space at the house for film re-loading and even JOBO runs if it seems important to you. We should have 2 JOBO's. You supply labor / hours.

What he said. You have to stop for refueling both you and your vehicle, discharging bodily wastes included trash from the afore mentioned vehicle and sleep.

Of course you can make it!
Get on the interstate. Step on it! At an average speed of 100 miles per hour you'll just make it in 30 hours! Could be fun!
You might get to see a variety of state trooper uniforms up close too!!! Think environmental portraiture!
