Toning gelatin prints with platinum or palladium

Does anybody know how to use platinum or palladium salts to tone silver gelatin prints? I've tried these formulas (which I believe are for silver-based alt. prints), with no apparent luck. The platinum one gives no visible result. The palladium one stains the paper and everything else orange.

Platinum toner

Water 400.0 ml
Potassium Chloroplatinite (20% sol.) 1.0 ml
Citric Acid 2.5 gm
Sodium Chloride 2.5 gm
Water to make 500.0 ml

Palladium Toner

Water 400.0 ml
Sodium Chloropalladite (15% sol.) 2.0 ml
Citric Acid 2.5 gm
Sodium Chloride 2.5 gm
Water to make 500.0 ml


I've also tried combining the salts with ammonium thiocyanate in the same way I make gold toner. The results are the same as above.

The reason I'm doing this is that I'm looking for a protective toner for lith prints. I don't like the color effect of gold much, and I can't handle selenium safely. I use Sistan instead.

I don't think they work, but I know uranium works, and if I could find that darn book, I'd post the formula.
