Which toners will salvage slightly darker prints? Just wondering because the only time I've toned was with sepia and I remember having to print darker. I've wasted many a sheet otherwise.

Sepia toners will lighten highlights slightly, more so with warmtone papers. Other than that, you could slightly bleach the print in very dilute ferri bleach (farmers reducer) to bring the highlights up a bit.
