While looking for a particular Tokina lens today, I ran across a new Tokina lens designation. At least to me it's new -- Tokina EL.

Wiki lists Tokina lens designations (below) but no EL. At first I thought Enlarging Lens -- commonly used by other lens makers, but all I can find are a 28mm EL and a 2X converter EL. Anyone know anything about the Tokina EL lens(es). "They" appear to be fixed mount.

  • FX - Full frame
  • DX - cropped digital
  • AF - Auto-Focus
  • AT-X Pro - professional line (constant aperture zooms or primes)
  • AT-X - consumer line
  • IF - Internal Focus System
  • FE - Floating Element System
  • NH - No Hood (10-17mm fisheye without built-in hood)

I have a EL 2.8 / 28mm lens in M42 mount. I don't use it often but it does the job, no complaint. I guess it is not that different from the other third party 28mm lenses from the '80/90.
