Congrats Graeme. I wish you every success with the Perth Gallery and your new career.

Congratulations, Graeme. I'm sure you will have a great deal of success. I'm looking forward to the expansion of your galleries not just to Perth but beyond. Best wishes from the East Coast.

Well, I finally did what I've been threatening to do for the last two years: I quit my day job.
Just read. my congrats too Graeme.

One day you'll look down and go 'whew how'd I get here? that decision back in 2006 sure helped'.

Hearty backslap, handshake.

Cheers, john.

that is great news graeme.

i gave my notice on my birthday
in 1992 (birthday present to myself).

self employment is never easy, but at least one is happy

best of luck with your new adventure!

john

Yes Graeme, all the best in your venture. I checked out your website and quality wise you will have no problems!
Do you have a gallery in Kalgoorlie? I hope one day to get out to that part of the world.
Cheers, Tony

Best wishes in your new endevor...on my 5th day of a 19 day stretch right now, and envy your decision to go with your heart. Some days, the corp world really stinks. It pays the bills, helps pay for the goodies to enjoy photography...but times like this leaves NO TIME to enjoy. That and in the end, no one really cares how hard you work.

sorry for the rant...just been several bad months. I wish you all the success in the world.

Thank you all for your wishes, and Mr Blanski - I do believe I am crazy ....

Although I haven't finished up at the day job yet, it already feels like there is a weight off my shoulders. I've noticed my creativity returned immediately when I sat down last night to write my regular newsletter - the words are flowing freely again for the first time in several months.

While daunting, the next few months holds the promise of more intellectual reward than I've had before me for a couple of years. I'm ready for the challenge and looking forward to tackling it.

Again, I thank you for your thoughts. I hope my customers are as supportive.

Cheers,
Graeme

That's exactly how I've been feeling - nobody gives a sh!t about my work at the day job. I've been doing very close to nothing there for 6 months now and nobody commented. It is soul-destroying to give your precious time to a company when you know you could use your time more productively elsewhere!

Between the day job and the current gallery, I've been putting in 70 hours a week, but 45 of those hours were wasted doing nothing but surfing the net and drinking coffee! Sure, I learnt a lot, but at what cost?

Me? Cynical? No, you've got the wrong bloke .....

Cheers,
Graeme

Good for you Graeme! I wish you the best of luck! Word to the wise, make sure you have factored in health insurance NOW! Dont get caught with your pants down like I did.....

Thanks Jorge. There are all sorts of insurance factors I need to worry about now! Your recent brush with fate is certainly in my thoughts for my future - I want to make the most of my own health while I still can. A healthy life is a fragile commodity and not to be taken for granted.

I am so glad you are back here to keep us all honest!

Cheers,
Graeme

I'm not sure what it's like in AUS but in NZ I have full private coverage for the entire family for about $50US dollars a month -that's a relief..

It's about the same here Sean, but we also have free medical treatment in public hospitals under Medicare. Until the government cuts that out too ....

Best of luck to you! And be thankful for medical care that is so (relatively) inexpensive!!!

Graeme,

As a non practicing geologist and now photographer, good luck.

Rich

I second that - even if I still have a day job!

Go get it! and with luck, I quit mine about 20 years ago. Have not worked a day since.

Congratulations on your dive. Lots of hard work in the past has put plenty of water in the pool so I'm sure your venture will be a success. You will continue the hard work in the future so I'm confident that with a little bit of luck you will enjoy even greater success.
Here's wishing you all the luck you need and a little bit more.
