Tmax developer raccomandation

hello! i only use tmax film .....what this the best soultion to achieve a good sharpness with t max film and this developer??

any difference between 24 degree and 20 degree development?

Dear danzyc,

The Kodak recommendations are the best place to start with this combination. Adjust you time and personal exposure index based on your results.

The only reasons to use the higher temperatures are if it's easier for you to maintain or you need the shorter times.

It's a good combination.

I'm assuming here that you are using TMax films and TMax developer. These two products pair up well enough, but be advised that other developers may be used, and will give equally good or better results. My developer of first choice with TMax films is XTOL. Next on the list is D-76. For my purposes, since I almost never try to push process film, either of these developers works as well as or better than TMax developer at lesser cost.

If you want recommendations for using TMax developer and TMax films, go straight to the source. Kodak has excellent documentation on their products, and I'm sure it will be better advice than any third hand information you'll get from the internet. In all the years I've been doing this, Kodak's recommendations have been on the money more often than any other "expert" opinions I've read or heard. Naturally, you'll want to fine tune your process to suit your individual circumstances. As a starting point, Kodak's recommendations can't be beat.

The best developers I've founds so far are XTOL (1+1) and Pyrocat HD. Both are easy to work with and give excellent sharpness and tonality with TMAX films. I prefer longer developing times to minimize variations in density due to small changes in time or temperature, so I'd recommend 20 C over 24 C.

Have to agree with Xtol & Pyrocat HD, those were the two developers I was using with Tmax100 & 400 until I switched back to Ilford films last Spring.

Rodinal is also another good combination with Tmax and I used the two together for about 20 years until changing to Pyrocat HD.

Hello, FWIW I have used TMAX100 with TMAX developer 1:4 at 20 deg. and produced satisfactory negatives. They were a bit contrasty for me at Kodak's recommended starting time, so you will have to adjust the times for your particular setup.
